Mediterranean Gold (Chrysafi tis Mesogeiou)

Mediterranean Gold, known in Greek as Chrysafi tis Mesogeiou, is an olive and olive oil shop in the Vlali building of Kapani, Thessaloniki's oldest covered market. The family behind it says it has been selling olives and olive oil for around 170 years, and the business is now in the hands of the fourth generation.

Table olives are the focus here, so it is the place to compare varieties side by side before you buy, with olive oil sold alongside. Kapani is busiest in the morning, which is also when the market stalls are at their liveliest.
