About Protoulis Master Olive Oil Makers
The Protoulis family runs two cold-extraction mills in the Plomari area of southern Lesvos: one at Megalochori, opened in 1975, and one at Trygonas, opened in 2005. They farm around 200 stremmata of organic olive groves and bottle under labels including Aegean Gold, Aegaea and Protoleo, an oil made from unripe green olives.
Guided mill visits come with tastings and range from a short 50-minute introduction to a 150-minute session with a trained taster and food pairing. The Megalochori mill can be reached on 22520 92290. Choose the longer session if you want a proper grounding in tasting.
